For all those who don’t like too complicated recipes. All you need is one bowl where you keep adding ingredients.

It’s a moist and flavourful cake that is whipped up in no time.


  • 125g [½ cup] butter [room temperature]
  • 125g [½ cup] sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 50g [⅓ cup] flour
  • 100g ground almonds
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 3 small ripe pears
  • 50g sliced almonds


  1. preheat oven to 180°C [375°F]
  2. grease a springform pan [line the bottom with a parchment paper]
  3. peel, core and cut pears in half
  4. beat butter and sugar together
  5. add eggs and beat will
  6. fold in flour, ground almonds and baking powder
  7. spoon batter into the baking pan
  8. arrange pear halves [cut side down] in a circle on top of the cake [press them in slightly]
  9. bake for 25 minutes
  10. sprinkle with almond slices and bake for another 8-10 minutes [until a skewer inserted comes out clean]
  11. leave to cool to room temperature
